With a calendar buzzing with lively events and festivals, you don’t have to drive far before you stumble across a gem that is perfect for you. Here is a roundup of some great events you can look forward to this summer, all great highlights for a camping adventure.


Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival, Skipton 
22 and 23 July
Taking place at Funkirk Farm, Skipton and offering two days of family fun from demonstrations to shopping and music to entertainment, Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival is so much more than just a food festival.


Northern Craft Beer Fest, Nr Kendal
20 – 22 July 2017
Held at least twice a year at Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley, South Lakes, Northern Craft Beer Fest is a well-attended event offering you the chance to sample a range of craft ales while enjoying live music in a lively microbrewery.


Great Yorkshire Fringe, York
21 July -13 August
Now, a key summer festival on the County’s annual events calendar, Great Yorkshire Fringe comes to York once again this year with a packed programme of comedy, cabaret, theatre and music.


The Leeds Festival, Leeds
26 – 28 August
A popular choice for all music lovers from across the UK, this festival is packed to the rafters with big name acts performing on multiples stages across the three days.


Blackpool Illuminations and LightPool 2017, Blackpool
1-3 September
The Blackpool illuminations receive millions of visitors each year and the Big Switch-On weekend is well worth a visit. The fun begins on Tuesday 29th of August with the family cycle event ‘Ride the Lights.



Solfest 2017, Nr Aspatria
25 – 27 August
Found on the west coast of Cumbria, Solfest offers over ninety acts on seven different stages across three days during the August Bank Holiday. With roving artists, workshops, kids entertainment and a kite display, it’s a great event for the whole family.


Lake District Summer Music, South Lakeland
29 July – 11 August
This international arts festival hosts over forty events in fantastic venues across the South Lakes. With a diverse programme of performances, Lake District Summer Music aims to offer something for all tastes.


Big Chill Swim, Coniston
2 September
Take the plunge into Coniston water as the Big Chill Swim challenges you to swim the 5.25m from end to end. It’s exhilarating to participate in and inspiring to watch.


Vintage by the Sea, Morecambe 
Transforming you back in time, Vintage by the Sea is a tremendous event which takes over Morecambe seafront each year in September. Inspired by the 1920’s through to the 1990’s, this event offers everything from classic cars to cocktails, DJ sets to street theatre and much more besides. It is well worth a visit.


Lakes Alive, Kendal
8 – 10 September
Our home town of Kendal hosted the inaugural Lakes Alive festival in 2016 with rave reviews. I, for one, am delighted to say it is returning this September with another packed itinerary of artistry, theatre and inspiring installations.
